“LordByronLanguageSchool” is a reputable and long established provider of second language programmes in new and innovative ways. While the organization originally established its reputation as a provider of quality programmes of English as a second language it has responded to the local market needs by expanding mainly into the fields of English for Academic - Specific Purposes and Corporate plus Business English to companies.
The school currently with an average of 350 students per year was originally established in 1987 as a joint venture by two experienced professionals in the field of ELT who have been teaching English for more than 35 years each. Today “Lord Byron School” is an official QLS Authorized Closed Examination Centre for the ESOL Cambridge Examinations, GR 801 and has received a Certificate of Recognition by the Hellenic American Union. In March 2002 the “Lord Byron School” became the first private school of languages in Greece to be accepted as a full member to EAQUALS the European Association for Quality Language Services in the hopes of not only realizing this goal but also in the spirit of continuing its commitment to providing quality services to its students. In June of the same year the school became founder member and Harry Nikolaides the Founder-Director of the school was elected Vice Chair of QLS the Greek Association of Quality in Language Services. Our school is an active member of ECML (the European Center of Modern Languages),Graz, Austria.
The central school is located in the city centre of Thessaloniki in Tsimiski Street and not only houses the overall Executive Administration Offices but also is the focal point for the school’s hallmark Academic Preparatory Courses and Advisement Services. The school’s English language Academic Programmes are annually satisfying the demands of over one hundred students wishing to pursue post-graduate studies nationally as well as in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and other European countries. Other programmes include preparation for the University of Cambridge exams FCE, CAE and CPE as well as the University of Michigan exams ECCE and ECPE. The central school is dedicated to adult learners only and offers preparation for Academic Entrance Examinations such as the TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, GRE and TOEIC. Business Courses, Import Export, Banking and Law and Tailor–Made Courses for Companies, leading to BEC and BULATS exams are catered for with an extensive range of specially designed materials in the school. The School prepares Short Tailor Made, Total Immersion Programmmes and Courses on demand.
Over the years “Lord Byron” has proudly achieved and maintained a high profile with regards to its students’ successful pass rates on certificate examinations, indeed this success has singled out the school’s teaching excellence amongst other private schools in Greece. The Academic Staff of “LordByronLanguageSchool” is qualified, experienced, career oriented and highly motivated professionals. The institution regularly conducts in-house continuing and specialized educational seminars for its staff with the view of encouraging professional development at both the school as well as the individual level. We operate according to the CEF (Common European Framework) and we were the coordinators in Greece for the production of the Greek Edition of the ALTE-EAQUALS ELP (European Language Portfolio). “Lord Byron School” has been teaching twenty one languages including Modern Greek to foreigners since 2006.
We operate in cooperation with a number of EuropeanUniversities as well as the Chemistry Dept of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In cooperation with E-Chem we examine university post-graduate students for TESPIS (Testing English for specific Purposes in Sciences) exams. We have signed an Agreement of Cooperation for the promotion of the Foreign Languages Learning with the Alexandrion Technological Institute of Thessaloniki. Our School has created important links with the St Clementie, Ohridski University of Sofia, the Medical School of Pleven and the American University of Bulgaria. “Lord Byron School” has participated in a number of Leonardo Da Vinci programmes in Life Long Vocational Training and Life Long Learning as a partner with prestigious European Associations, Schools and Universities. In 2011 we have come to an agreement with foreign Organisations and companies in Germany, Austria and Holland to introduce our students to companies abroad for employment. Till now we have been operating successfully in the fields of Chemistry, Engineering and Medicine mainly introducing Medical doctors. Recently we have signed an agreement with a state and two private establishments who offer Nursing and Health Care studies in different specialities to teach them mainly English or other European languages preparing them to work abroad.
We participate in the e-gnosis project an Action of the Equal Society under the care of the Ministry of Education and “Nea Genia”. An additional activity we have added recently in September 2014 to support our variety of services in Education is our
Appointment and the signing of working partnership for Greece with the Australian Company “Yes 2 Study” offering services to young people less than 30 years old who want to study and work in Australia.
We are to prepare for the summer 2015, two Summer Schools promoting the Greek Language, Culture and Civilisation for foreigners, one in Thessaloniki and the second one on a Greek Island. We are to attract University students from all over the globe.
Finally we work at the moment on the production of Blended Learning Materials and a new operational platform for administrative purposes. Our main ambition and goal is to prepare, monitor, evaluate and pilot new materials and products in teaching. All those products are disseminated with our prestigious partners through seminars, presentations and conferences. Our new interactive website is expected to be ready and operational by mid-February 2015.
